Eerste bewoners van nieuw bed

Vandaag het verhoogde bed dat we afgelopen zondag hebben gemaakt verder opgevuld met aarde. Vervolgens bindsla uitgeplant. hopelijk duurt het even voordat de slakken dit kersverse bed ontdekken. Dan heeft de bindsla tijd om zover te groeien dat de sla de onvermijdbare slakkenaanval kan doorstaan.

First inhabitants of raised bed

Today I got to fill the second of my raised beds with soil and plant 4 lettuce plants in it. Hopefully it’ll take the slugs a while to invade this bed, so that the lettuce will have time to become strong enough to withstand the slugs’ inevitable assaults.

Laatste mooie dag…

voorlopig, dan. Het is nu 20 graden, maar vanavond gaat het regenen en daarna krijgen we veel koeler weer.
We hebben geprofiteerd van het mooie weer door een paar uur op de volkstuin te werken vandaag.
Terwijl manlief bezig was met het maken van verhoogde bedden van planken van een tweedehands schttingpaneel, heb ik de laatste pootaardappelen gezet, gewied en water gegeven in de kas en bij de zaailingen.

for the time being, that is. It’s supposed to start raining tonight and we’ll have much cooler temps next week. It’s now 20 C.
We spent a few hours today on the allotment. I got a reclaimed hardwood fencing panel which we tore apart for planks. We’re now making the planks into raised beds.
While DH was working on that, I was putting in the last of the potatoes, weeding and watering the greenhouse and the seedlings.
Daphne

I like Daphnes. Not the ladies, but the plants. They are attractive shrubs, most are wintergreen and when they flower they don’t just attract the eye, but also the nose.
Here’s a picture of Daphne x thauma. Close up, it is just a tiny plant.
Here’s Daphne Cheriton. A rather larger sort Daphne with in front a rock garden variety of Iberis.

Ik houd van daphnes. Niet de dames, maar de planten. Het zijn mooie struikjes, de meeste blijven groen in de winter en als ze bloeien zijn ze niet alleen aantrekkelijkvoor het oog, maar ook voor de neus.
Hier een foto van Daphne x thauma. Close up, want het is maar een klein plantje.
Hieronder Daphne Cheriton. Een aanzienlijk robuuster struikje, met op de voorgrond een klein soort iberis.
